Making Your Own Mehndi
For Private use ONLY
As a result of the many side-effects of industrially produced Mehndi many people have now
started using their own recipes for making Mehndi paste. They get a more reliable and safer produce this
way. If you too are searching for a similar recipe then here one you can use:
Mehndi leaves are harvested, dried and then crushed to make up the Henna powder. Henna powder is naturally
green in color. This powder is readily available in the markets of the countries that cultivate
it like India, Pakistan, Morocco, Yemen and the other Middle East
countries.
Mehndi Recipe
First filter out enough henna to make up about 1 and ¼ cups of the dry filtered henna
powder. Then take two (2) packets of regular instant coffee singles (the ones that resemble tea bags) and
boil them hard in 1 and ½ cups of water.
Boil the solution down to you have about ¾ of a cup of dark liquid. Take the
solution and mix just enough coffee into the powder to create a thick paste. The powder boils up a
little, due to the presence of hot water, mix it well until it is smooth and well blended.
Now add two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to get satisfactory results. You can also add up to five
drops of Eucalyptus and olive oil to the refined mixture.
This procedure makes a thin paste but its consistency should be more like that of pancake
batter. Be sure it is NOT runny - otherwise it complicates the process of applying the
Mehndi.
If it is too runny then add up a little more sifted Mehndi powder to the mix. Otherwise, if it is too
thick, then merely add a dab more coffee, or pure water.
Allow the mixture to settle and cool for two to three hours. Your Mehndi paste is now ready to
use with thing that you wish to add. If refrigerated the left over Mehndi powder will stay
fresh up to two weeks in case you want to make more - IF it is kept tightly sealed.
The above procedure is quite inexpensive and free from additives that might damage your hands. Use it
to freely and intricately decorate your skin as you see fit.
