Mehndi Types
Through the eons, the style and patterns of Mehndi has tremendously changed into a totally new
artistic approach. As it has gained popularity, across the globe, the cultural augmentation and
familiarity has become quite evident.
Having originally been a unique art form of the ancient Celtic races it has grown into many unique
variations. The Celtics are still unique in their use of Mehndi because of their metamorphic images and their
never ending spiral techniques.
Different designs have now been produced that offer large varieties for the versatile
personalities of each person. These include gradations of likenesses, varying shades and compatibility with
many skin types and skin tones.
Fully recognized, there are basically four main types of Mehndi approaches found in the various
countries, that practice Mehndi. Arabic design, quite popular in the Middle Eastern countries, is composed of bold
and open patterns with less complexity.
With no, or very few, fill-ins the large floral designs on the hands and/or feet enhance the whole
beautification procedure. The designs are primarily on the palm of the hand and the feet. In some cases they may be
found on the lesser extensions such as the arm or calves.
On the other aspect, the Indian artistic designs consist mostly of a large dot or a figure in the
center with an inch covering of the fingertips. Mostly the design is overspread on the hand covering, in some
cases, the entire arms and/or calf muscle.
Closely related to the Indian design is the more intricate, and beautiful, Pakistani Mehndi
design. This design has become widely popular because of the reflection of the skill and determination in the
artistic advances. The design is quite abundant in fine lines and floral designs with regular fill-ins and
few blank spaces.
This mostly depends on the desire of the customers as to whether they want a complete covering or
not. Arms up to the elbow and also calf muscles are decorated as in the Indian designs.
Moving over to the African continent, women there are adorned by large and bold patterns - usually
representing large geometrical figures. The other prevalent design includes many lines, or dots. Though
covering few areas on the hand and feet, the designs are absolutely stunning and fascinating as with all other
trends in the Mehndi designs.
Various types of designs now available have given people on all
continents the opportunity to select the best design(s) portraying their unique personality.
Thus offering a better opportunity for individual expression than a simple tattoo could satisfying
their personal desires to a larger degree!
